Executive Director

Summary: Baraga County Shelter Home (BCSH) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Directive develops and oversees BCSH programs and staff, works with clients, implements policies, prepares grant applications and manages grant-funded programs.

Position Title: Executive Director
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Supervised by: Board of Directors
Supervises: All staff and volunteers
Salary Range: $35,360 - $54,000

Qualified candidates will have knowledge of administrative and management principles necessary for directing services for victims of domestic violence, assault, and stalking, ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, knowledge of budgeting principles, personnel procedures, program development, strategic planning and program evaluation. He/she will also have ability to function as the Executive Director of a non-profit corporation under the supervision of a governing board and possess knowledge of supervisory techniques and staff development.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate knowledge of successful fundraising and development. The Executive Director communicates regularly with the Board of Directors through written reports, attendance at Board meetings, participation in Board activities and contact with individual Board members. He/she has primary responsibility for communication with the Board regarding the current status of services being offered and the development of new programs.

As the administrative leader of the agency, he/she has primary responsibility for assuring that administrative functions are accomplished through a defined administrative structure. The person in this position serves as the leader of a team and provides the direction and supervision necessary for other personnel to accomplish their assigned duties.

The Executive Director is evaluated annually by the President of the Board and Treasurer.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or Business Administration field or equivalent working experience.
2. Experience with budget development & expenditure tracking.
3. Experience with various computer software applications including spreadsheets.
4. Knowledge of community resources.
5. Strong empathy and empowerment skills.
6. Ability to provide services in keeping with the BCSH's mission and philosophy
7. Must have the ability to learn from and provide constructive criticism.
8. Must have good typing and office skills.
9. Must be self-directed.
10. Must be knowledgeable about internal control and record keeping requirements.
11. Must be able to communicate effectively with the Staff, Clients, Board of Directors, and the public.
12. Must possess a valid driver's license and pass DHHS Central Registry, Offender Registry, and Criminal Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Administrative or supervisory experience with volunteers and/or staff.
2. Familiarity with Federal & State Grant funded programs.
3. Prior experience and extensive training and knowledge in dynamics of Domestic Violence, Assault, and Stalking

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Overall implementation of policies developed by the Board of Directors
2. Designs and evaluates organizational structure.
3. Develops and maintains effective management systems and personnel policies.
4. Develops system for adequate administrative/staff coverage of programs.
5. Develops and maintains an effective system of personnel development and evaluation.
6. Develops and maintains effective systems for program development including responsible budgeting and staffing for all programs.
7. Develops and maintains effective mechanisms for necessary fund raising, public relations and community involvement.
8. Develops and maintains community contacts, focusing on those networks appropriate to the organization's focus of service.
9. Maintains political awareness and connections within the context in which the organization does business.
10. Prepare and submit grants/contracts on behalf of the organization.
